Photos: 18th edition of the April 16 Memorial Day on the Chemin des Dames

About 1,600 people gathered on 16 April 2026 for the 18th Chemin des Dames Memorial Day, with torchlit marches, free guided tours at the Caverne du Dragon, and conferences at the Pavillon de Vauclair. The department announced three days of special programming for the 110th anniversary of the Nivelle Offensive in 2027.

Conference on post-WWI psychiatric practices at the Caverne du Dragon, 6 June

VE Day 2026 commemorations across the Aisne department

The 81st anniversary of the 1945 victory was commemorated on 8 May 2026 in several communes of the Aisne (Saint-Quentin, Laon, Montcornet, Charmes...), often led by newly elected municipal councils. Prefect Fanny Anor presided over the Laon ceremony; regional president Xavier Bertrand was present at Saint-Quentin.

'Contain the whole universe': Jean-Christophe Norman takes over the Arsenal in Soissons

From 5 May to 12 July 2026, the Arsenal museum of Saint-Jean-des-Vignes Abbey in Soissons hosts artist Jean-Christophe Norman with 'Contain the whole universe', an exhibition mixing drawing, writing and performance. Aisne Department adopts 2026 budget with rising investment

The Aisne Departmental Council unanimously approved its 2026 budget of EUR 745.2 million, including EUR 90.8 million of investment (up EUR 8.4 million). Departmental roads will get EUR 13.9 million and the SDIS fire service EUR 30.5 million; two new schemes, a cantonal community-association fund and the CAP'Jeunes BAFA Internat youth grant, were launched.

Vailly-sur-Aisne: Arnaud Battefort officially installed as mayor on 18 April

After winning the first round on 15 March 2026 with 100% of valid votes, 50-year-old administrative and commercial executive Arnaud Battefort was officially installed as mayor of Vailly-sur-Aisne on 18 April 2026. His deputies are Marcel Bombart, Jocelyne Jaillot, Francis Cendra and Nelly Clement. The municipal council has 19 elected members.

Alain Cremont decisively re-elected as president of GrandSoissons Agglomeration

On 10 April 2026 Alain Cremont was re-elected president of GrandSoissons Agglomeration with over 80% of the vote (49 ballots). He will be supported by 13 vice-presidents. His new term focuses on attractiveness (Plateau 3, station district), solidarity and environmental transition, all directly relevant to neighbouring CCVA villages.
